SHOU SUGI BAN

reSAWN has modernized the ancient Japanese shou sugi ban process to create high performance, beautiful wood products. The designs vary greatly in aesthetics from a fully charred black to a light, subtle gray. reSAWN uses only the highest quality wood species to ensure unmatched performance in any suitable application. Species include domestic western red cedar, cypress and accoya.

Accoya

Shou sugi ban Accoya® is the combination of high-performance modified wood and an award-winning charred technique. Inspired by an ancient Japanese process that dates back to the 1700s, shou sugi ban enhances the exterior performance and aesthetic value of natural wood products. Due to the enhanced durability of Accoya®, a dense outer char layer allows the wood to seamlessly transition to a beautiful weathered look. All of our CHARRED shou sugi ban Accoya® products are FSC certified and come with a 50-year warranty on the wood when used above ground; 25-year warranty when used at/below ground level.

Western Red Cedar

ReSAWN offers Western Red Cedar because it’s one of North America’s great renewable resources. In addition to it’s prominence as sustainable exterior material, it’s very durable and is one of the lightest commercial softwoods. It is an expansive and popular tree in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. The wood is used to build shingles for roofs, siding (cladding) for homes, decks, and furniture among other applications.

With the use of the classic building material, reSAWN has modernized and expanded the possible design options with CHARRED shou sugi ban and weathered finishes.

Cypress

Cypress is notable for its color consistency, density and hardness. Although cypress is a softwood, it grows alongside hardwoods and traditionally has been grouped and manufactured with hardwoods. The oils in cypress’ heartwood make it one of the most durable woods when exposed to moisture conditions causing decay. Cypress trees are natives of the south. They are found primarily in wet, swampy areas along the Atlantic Coastal Plain from Delaware to Florida.
