With housing affordability becoming increasingly challenging and more people shifting toward simpler, more intentional ways of living, tiny homes have moved from niche concept to mainstream solution. For many, they offer a way to reduce footprint, increase independence, and reconnect with a more nature-based lifestyle.
Ecospace focuses on high-quality prefabricated cabins, minor dwellings, and bespoke tiny homes, with sustainability embedded into every stage of the process. Founder Gavin Barr emphasizes that the goal is not just to build small, but to build responsibly and for the long term.
“Our approach is to use materials that make sense environmentally, but also support the comfort and performance of the home over its full lifespan,” he says. “We want these spaces to feel warm, efficient, and healthy to live in, not just on day one, but decades down the line.”
He adds that material selection plays a key role in that philosophy. “Working with New Zealand-made products aligns with our values and our tikanga principles. Choosing cladding like Abodo gives us a material we trust, and it also helps define the character of our builds in a really meaningful way.”
